Description

A Database Administrator would be working closely with internal/external development teams and helpdesk agents to respond to adverse events (database outages, recovery, performance tuning), as well as assist in the creation of new features and environments including migrations from legacy systems to new cloud-based infrastructure.

• Monitoring and maintaining database health, uptime and performance, providing recommendations to ensure highest possible availability for databases in a variety of environments
• Troubleshoot issues that might be related to SQL Server authentication, backups, triggers, database mail, indexing and auditing
• Promote security and best-practices related to data privacy for all cloud-based data sources
• Manage project and support related tasks with a diverse team of engineer

Qualification:

• Microsoft T-SQL knowledge (extensive)
• Microsoft Windows OS / SSMS / Azure Data Studio
• Experience with a variety of RDBMS (MSSQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL)
• Experience with administering resources in Microsoft Azure/AWS/GXP/On-Prem
• Certifications for Microsoft Azure / SQL Server
• Data modeling and database design, ensuring data integrity
• Database schema creation and management
• Performance management and tuning
• Ensuring database availability
• TSQL code reviews
• General networking skills to work with different implementations of SQL Server (Azure SQL/MSSQL on-prem/SQL Server on Azure VM's, AWS)
• Basic knowledge of TCP/IP communications, web servers, firewalls, ssl communications
• Storage management - Database files may be located on a physical disk, Azure NetApp fileshare, or another type of cloud based storage
• Data Organization: Data object naming conventions, structuring backup and recovery processes to ensure minimal downtime
• Troubleshooting: Stored procedures, triggers, availability
• Degree in computer science an asset

• Strong organizational skills; must be able to organize and effectively manage assigned tasks, work with other DBA's to ensure break/fix issues are resolved according to SLA's
• Exceptional communication skill to be able to describe and translate complex information to stakeholders clearly and concisely, as well as record all troubleshooting/project related tasks via ticketing system
• Ability to work in a team, and be comfortable providing daily written updates to team members and coordinating with multiple teams to provide support in high-priority issues
• Strong problem-solving skills; preventing data loss and mitigating database issues is critical to maintaining SLA's
